Origin

The Swedish Vallhund closely resembles the Pembroke Corgi. It is believed that the Swedish Vallhund may have been transported by the Vikings to Britain. The word Vallhund, meaning herding dog, this breed as many talents such as a cattle drover, watchdog and rodent control.


Description

The Swedish Vallhund as a fox like expression, their ears are pricked with a line of fine hairs. Their muzzle is long and parallel to the top of their skull. They have a well-defined mask with lighter hair around the eyes, muzzle, and under the throat. Their coat is harsh, tight and medium in length with a soft undercoat, the neck is long and muscular. Their legs are powerful with short oval feet and round pads.


Feeding & Ownership

On the whole these dogs are not big eaters when you consider the amount of exercise they require.


Personality

The Swedish Vallhund is a responsive and even-tempered breed, it is intelligent and affectionate. They are a very ac­tive and energetic. Due to they social nature they are quite good with children and other animals.


Grooming

The Swedish Vallhund has a double coat, with a thick undercoat and a weather-resistant outer coat, their coat is easy to groom. Brush on a regular basis with a firm bristle brush, and bathe once a month is all that is required as regular bathing will remove the natural oils in the weather-resistant coat and dry out the skin.
